Information for Parents

Message to Parents, from Aaron

If you've signed up your child to take lessons at Aaron's studio, thank you!
For lessons to be successful, it is vital that both you and Aaron share common expectations for piano lessons and that you both communicate with each other during both the good and the “bumpy” times.

Aaron expects students to practice carefully and correctly, and always to play to the very best of their abilities.  Aaron does not expect students to eventually major in music or become concert artists.  However, he does expect students to treat piano on par to sports and other extracurricular activities.

Aaron addresses the individual musical strengths and weaknesses of his students.  For a quick resource, click here for a downloadable list of “Do’s and Don’ts” for some ideas on how to encourage correct practice at home.
Parents are always welcome to contact Aaron if they have any questions.

Incentives Program

With this program, students receive points (among many other things) for how well and how much they practice at home.  The purpose of this system is first and foremost to encourage students to practice.   However, it also encourages participation in activities that are outside their daily practice routine.  Parents contribute by signing a  Piano Practice Log as either “complete” or “incomplete” before the start of each weekly lesson.  At each lesson, Aaron fills out a Piano Practice Points sheet, and students keep track of points by recording the weekly total on a chart in the studio.  Aaron explains this system in detail to his students and parents at the first lesson of the year.

Siblings and Friends at Lessons

Please remember that siblings and friends must remain very quiet if they are to wait inside the studio.  If siblings or friends decide to play outside, they must be supervised by a parent at all times.  Friends and siblings may not come in and out of the studio during a lesson, as it is very distracting.

Parents at Lessons

Parents are always encouraged to observe their child's lesson as often as possible!  Bring paper!  Take notes!  Ask questions and be involved!
